White Pony Express started four years ago as a grassroots effort of friends. The idea was to find a way to use the problem of food waste to solve the problem of hunger. Without funds, assets, or even a place to call home, these friends started. In four years, WPE has delivered 5,300,000 pounds of fresh food from local supermarkets, restaurants, and farmers’ markets to the hungry in our county—that’s 4.4M meals the hungry would have gone without. A second program, WPE Free General Store distributes new and like-new clothing, toys, and children’s books--over 10,000 articles a month. Each year, more than 60,000 of our neighbors have healthier food, and clothing like their better off peers, through the love and hard work of WPE.
